The Meteorological Assistant seated on the right is ready to record the observations by the Meteorological Officer of the balloon's flight for subsequent recording of wind direction and velocity.

Melbourne, Vic. 1942-12-03. Miss Sheila McLeod, Miss Howgate, and Miss Clare Broadhurst, voluntary workers in the Victory Garden established in the grounds of WAAAF House, 21 Georges Road, Toorak. They are using shovels to dig a new bed in the vegetable plot. Toorak House was the property lent by Mrs W. G. Spowers in 1942-02 to provide hostel accommodation for fifty WAAAF airwomen. As a hostel it was known as "WAAAF House".

To protect them against the dengue mosquito in the daytime and the malarial mosquito at night, WAAAF in this area are required by medical direction to wear a uniform of long-sleeved shirts and slacks. 

After sundown slacks must be buttoned at the ankle, over boots.
